Fundraising- Evaluate current fundraising activities for breadth and benefit.
- Research existing and additional local, regional and national funders of various types. - Write and submit grant proposals to support the organization’s mission and programming. - Assess staff, board, donor and community members to expand networks and contacts. - Develop diverse income streams with multiple approaches and events. - Collaborate with staff and board members to strengthen donor requests. |
Community Engagement- Identify constituents being served and those not being served.
- Assess and adjust programming to meet the needs of the diverse community. - Compare and align engagement demographics with community demographics to enhance inclusion. - Examine and expand organizational access to enhance equitable community buy-in. - Strengthen “pull through” opportunities to deepen organizational impact. |
Board Development- Evaluate the current board membership identifying
strengths and challenges. - Analyze and clarify the roles and expectations of the board. - Expand the pool of board candidates. - Compare and align board demographics to community demographics. - Examine and strengthen board policies and procedures. |
Budget Structures- Analyze the current budget report documents.
- Assess the transparency and consistency of all fiscal activity. - Gather and apply board reporting recommendations for increased oversight. - Adjust current structures to simplify funder reporting requests. - Create an annual report template. |
Strategic Planning- Establish an organizational collaborative process structure.
- Identify the short and long-term objectives of the organization. - Establish community feedback structures that are equitable and inclusive to encourage input. - Assess the staff and board for implementation capacity. - Ensure that the organization’s values and policies are reflected in assessable actions. - Develop a 3-year plan including implementation benchmarks and assignments. - Align all aspects of the organization into one, goal-oriented guiding document. |
Procedural Development- Examine day-to-day operations for efficiency and effectiveness.
- Create a procedural overview document or adjust the existing document. - Clarify and codify operational expectations for the staff, board and volunteers. - Develop or update organizational values and policy statements including but not limited to anti-racism, land acknowledgement, hiring practices, compensation, and promotion. |
